2001 Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz

The YY Dry Red No 1 from this vintage is etched in my memory, so I approach this wine with huge respect. Subdued, dark cherry red – a touch of tawny at the edges. Lifted aromas – red and black berries; licorice; dried herbs; and orange bitters. This is remarkably fresh. Supremely balanced when sipped – cool climate red-berry energy matched with judiciously applied oak. Given time to blossom with air, it’s exceptional. Ripeness is perfect. The vineyard allowed to sing.
"Pristine, fragrant and perfumed, with intensely floral aromas of small dark berries and polished new oak. Fleshy and sumptuous, it's elegant and creamy, delivering a long, fine and tightly knit expression of penetrative dark berries and star anis, with undertones of violets, cloves and pepper. Brilliant balance, structure and length. " Jeremy Oliver, OnWine.
