2010 Vinoptima Ormond Reserve Gewurtztraminer

The Vinoptima project was an ambitious one.

Noted NZ wine personality Nick Nobilo set out to craft one of the world's most elite Gewürztraminers. He planted what he thought would be the ideal vineyard. Set up a state-of-the-art winery. He went whole-hog.

The winery no longer exists, but the wines he produced were extraordinary.

This is drinking right at its peak. The years of bottle development concentrating the luscious fruit flavours and picking up plenty of honeyed, toasty notes in the process. 

It's every bit the insane drinking experience you might expect. Please note, the wine should be consumed in a single sitting.
