2011 Barone Sergio Eloro Nero D'Avola DOC

This family-run estate is managed by our good friends Giovanni and Caterina Sergio, along with their daughters Angela and Luigia. Giovanni works closely with his oenologist, and together they have created a wine that is expressive of the unique geographical location, and which has remarkable longevity.
 
Based a few kilometres from Pachino in the furthest south-east corner of Sicily, the soils are quite rocky and the climate is influenced by the nearby Monte Iblei mountain range and the Ionian Sea.
 
The Sergio Nero d'Avola is intense with rich balsamic notes and hints of red fruit like cherry jam, and spices like black pepper and rosemary. You also might notice some secondary flavours like coffee and tobacco. It is aged solely in steel tanks. A fantastic wine made by fantastic people.
