2021 Brands Laira 1968 Vines Cabernet Sauvignon

The Vines range marry rich, powerful Coonawarra fruit with elegant, expressive winemaking. Only created in limited quantities and sold exclusively through our cellar door.

Hand-picked and processed through the optical berry sorter before being crushed and transferred into oak vats for fermentation. Hand plunged/rolled and left on skins for 12 days, pressed, then returned to the same barrels for a period of 17 months for maturation prior to bottling.

The palate exhibits pure cherry, plum and cassis fruits with subtle vanillin oak notes. This is a medium bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with an elegant structure and a fine, silky finish.

Some 50 years later in 1950 Eric Brand and his wife Nancy Redman acquired the same 24 hectare property with just over 2 hectares of Shiraz and named it ‘The Laira’ Vineyard in honour of Captain Stentiford’s favourite Clipper, which bore the same name. Today the brand proudly offers an outstanding range of wines, including the Flagship One Seven One Cabernet – recently awarded Best Coonawarra Cabernet at the International Wine Challenge 2017 and the highly awarded Blockers Cabernet.
