2019 Fattoria Coroncino Gaiospino Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Superiore

Lucio Canestrari makes Verdicchio wines, among others, with his wife Fiorella and his son Valerio. Lucio is a kind and matter-of-fact person, who has farmed his vineyards with minimal intervention since 1993. He doesn't allow any machinery in the vineyards, uses solely wild yeasts in the winery, zero additives, and only a tiny amount of SO2 at bottling. Gaiospino is Coroncino's most awarded wine and is produced from a selection of fully ripe grapes from the Spesia vineyard (Cupramontana). 20-30% of Gaiospino is fermented in 500L (used) oak barrels and remains on its lees in the barrels until bottling, approximately 16-18 months later.
