2019 Toolangi Estate Reserve Block F Chardonnay

Toolangi's F Block--home to 17-year-old vines of the Gin Gin clone--has been identified as growing the best of the best Chardonnay that this Dixon's Creek vineyard produces. From the highest parcel of vines on the property, the first release under the new regime fruit was crushed and pressed with full solids straight to oak (20% new), and both primary fermentation and malolactic were powered by wild yeasts. The wine then spent eight months on lees before bottling.
Hand-picked Gingin clone, the 18yo vines considered to be the best on the property. Whole-bunch pressed with solids to French barriques and puncheons (35% new) for fermentation and maturation. Layered fruit of the highest quality, it is as long as it is complex, oak merely a whisper.

Light, bright yellow colour; a trace of smoky reduction overlies toasted hazelnut and the wine is charming and alluring. The palate is intense and firm, very dry and lingering, the finish and aftertaste cleansing and moreish. This is impressive, and has the potential to deliver even more joy in the future. 19 JUL 2020
